Preparation of Newsletters for WWW access

Text only versions of the newsletters have been available by FTP and WWW for some time, produced by Lou Maher, and kept at the INQUA boutique in Wisconsin. With the decision of INQUA to move towards electronic publishing of newsletters, and a considerable reduction in the funds available for any kind of publishing, it was clear that this newsletter would have to be generated in WWW format. At the same time, it made sense to convert the past issues to full WWW format, partly as a pilot exercise, and partly so that they would be available in the same way as new issues.

All the old newsletters have now been converted. Each was broken down into its individual articles, and a WWW page made from each article. Indexes were then created so that articles could be found by newsletter, by author, or by subject. It is intended to make the whole archive searchable.

As far as possible, articles were kept in the same style as the originals. A very small number of minor errors have been corrected, but mostly the text of the articles on WWW is the same as on the original paper. No attempt has been made to correct information that might have become out-of-date, such as the various forms of internet addresses. Where an article included a full URL (http://...), this has been made active, but not checked for current validity. Hyperlinks have been added between articles where one made explicit reference to another. The original list of e-mail addresses included with each newsletter has been excluded (as it was from most of the text-only versions), but a link provided for the current e-mail address list.

Copyright notices have been added to each article, asserting the rights of the original author.
